My
Brother Knights,
Another year is upon us and it’s October already.
Congratulations to all the newly elected or reelected officers. First,
Second and third Degree Meeting are 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of the month. 4th
Degree is the 1st Thursday of the month. Meetings start at 7:30pm and are at
Holy Redeemer FLC In July, we started out this year with our TriDistrict
Meeting at Swartz Creek. Main talk was about membership. We had our Diocesan
Meeting at Boysville in Clinton-Macon. Those that were there learned how our
money is spent that we donate to this good cause. The property was donated
by Henry Ford to help these boys. Girls are now included as part of the
Boysville organization throughout Michigan. On the 2Oth, 21st and
22nd the state of Michigan KofC hosted the 11th Annual Camp out at Harbor
Beach. This year I attended and found it to be an interesting challenge
since I never went camping before. It is just a different way of living than
I am used to. There was a Euchre Tournament on the 24th and Denny Owens did
help to raise some money that will help us pay for other events that we
host, such as Pancake Breakfast or Parish Picnic. August 8th we had our
Tri-District installation of officers at Grand Blanc Holy Family. The 11th
was our Golf Outing Honoring Robert LaBarge. We had 28 teams of 4 so we had
a shotgun Start. 17th of August we honored Vocations by going to the Lugnuts
in Lansing. They won and like always there was a great fire works show, it
was enjoyed by all. On Sept.16 we had our Parish Picnic. Thanks to all those
that participated whether working, socializing or just being there. Hope all
had a good time. 22nd we had our corporate Communion at 5 PM Mass. This is
an event for all Knights to show their comradery with each other in our
showing our fellowship with our Lord and one another. If you were not there,
you were missed, not only by our fellow brother Knights, but also in
representing ourselves to our fellow parishioners. 25th We had a Euchre
Tournament. 26th we had a Blood Drive. Words from the ChaplainTo all my Brother knights of The 3rd degree, Vivat
Jesus! It is a privilege to serve as chaplain for Council
10170 at Holy Redeemer. I arrived as the new pastor here on Wednesday May 9th.
On May 11th, I transferred
my council membership from Fowler 3027 to Holy Redeemer when I attended my
first fish fry. I have been a Knight since 1993 I observed the 3rd and 4th
degree in Nov. of 2003. On Wednesday Aug. 22 of this year, I became one of
the Faithful Friars for the 4th Degree. I was supported by various Knights councils
throughout all 8 years of my seminary training. I am forever grateful for
their support It is my hope and prayer that we will soon have a local
seminarian from this area to give our support to. The need is greater than
ever. I have been amazed not only by the size of the
council 10170 but also by how active its members are, both in attending
meetings and helping with various activities sponsored by the council. I
know that many of our members are from other local parishes, and I look
forward to meeting you as time and circumstances permit. As a native of
Flint, it is wonderful to be back in the hometown again. As the days shorten and the weather grows colder,
let’s recall that the month of Nov. is a special time for us to remember
all those who have died. Pray in a special way for the deceased Knights and
Ladies of 10170. Eternal rest grant unto them O Lord, and let perpetual
light shine upon them. In Jesus’ name, Our Holy Redeemer, Rev. Timothy E. MacDonald Pastor State
Bowling Tournament: As
many our you already know, our council is hosting the 2008 K of C State
Bowling Tournament. It will beheld at Town &
Country Lanes on Miller Rd. The tournament is scheduled to run for
approx. 10 weeks with the officers tournament starting Saturday, January12,
2008, and the regular tournament starting Saturday, January 26, 2008. This
will require a great deal of man-hours to tackle the many tasks required to
host such an event. The committee is beginning to meet regularly immediately
following our 3rd degree meetings. We would encourage all members
to become involved. There will be a special mass at 6:30p.m. at Holy
Redeemer Church on Saturday January 12,2008 as part of the opening
ceremonies weekend. The Honor Guard will also be in attendance. There will
also be a reception in the Family Life Center immediately following mass.
Food will be provided with a cash bar. We hope to have as many members of
our council as possible in attendance to show support for this great event.
State officers will be present and attire is casual. Hope to see you there. Welcome
Back Meeting
will be December 4, 2007 at 7:30 p.m. in the Family Life Center. We
encourage all members to attend. If you know of any members who do not
regularly attend meetings, please give them a call asking to come back even
if for this meeting alone. We will be taking a council picture that will be
displayed in poster size at Town & Country Lanes through-out the
tournament. So, come be a part of the photo and show your support for our
great council, Father Louis P. Gauthier, Council 10170. Pancakes
with Santa
will be on Saturday December 8th. This is the special time of
year that we show the children of our council and parish families how much
we appreciate them. There will be a wrapping party on Friday December 7th.
There is also a fish fry on this date so a time has not been designated. So,
grab your scissors, come on down to the cafeteria for a fish dinner and
shortly after 7:00 p.m. we will start wrapping. Insurance
is one of the many benefits of the Knights of Columbus, but you must take
the first step. We are fortunate to have in our area, Field Agent Kevin
Patterson. He is always more than ‘happy and willing to meet with you and
answer any questions you may have regarding new or current policies. You can
reach ‘Kevin @ (810) 695-6352 and
ask him about all the financial services available to you through the order. 4th
Degree Assembly 0510 Fall
is here and soon the holiday season will be upon us. At this time of the
year, we need to reflect on how thankful we are for all the blessings that
God has given us. We live in a country that allows us the freedom to belong
to an organization such as the Knights of Columbus to help our parish and
our community, while at the same time enjoying the fellowship of our brother
knights. At
the present time, there has not been anything definite regarding the
Exemplification in January. We have a District meeting on November 3rd and
at that time we will be told if in fact one will be held in January. Keep
encouraging all Third Degree members to fill out the Form 4’s and get them
turned in so we will know how many new candidates we may have. Even if there
may not be an early Exemplification we will have most of our work done. The
Fourth Degree Christmas dinner will be held on December 6, 2007, in the
Family Life Center The cost will be $12.00..per person. The deadline for
reservations is December 1, 2007. Have
a Happy. Thanksgiving and remember those who are in our Armed Forces and
will not be with their families for the Holidays. Fraternally
yours. Jerry
