In The Words of the
Grand Knight
By Tom Higgerson

you in my prayers daily. Many thanks to the new officers, those who have been a part of our activities in the past, our council is strong and exemplary. I am proud of all of you, and yes, I do realize that we have members from other parishes. All are welcome here! Peace, love and prayers.
Father Bill Wegher

Thank you to all those who have chaired recent Council activities. Thanks to Ray Letourneau and all the Knights who helped make the golf outing a great success. Looking forward to seeing all of you next year. Thank-you to Al & Beth Clark for all their efforts in making the parish picnic a wonderful afternoon. We had the largest turnout in parish picnic history. Thanks to Jim Butler for his effort in the membership blitz. Remember it is the responsibility of all Knights to bring in new members. Recruitment is lifeblood of the council. I hope you’re as proud to be a Knight as I am. Recruiting friends and family members is a great example of this.

We will be holding an election for Council Recorder on November 16th. Anyone interested in this position, please contact Denny Owens of the Nominating Committee. I would also like to thank Denny Cavanaugh for accepting the interim position until a new recorder is elected

My Brother Knights,
The year has gotten off to a great start. The council is as vibrant as ever. Over the course of the last four or five months, I have had a lot of brother knights tell me that they were going to start coming back to meetings. I am aware that the next meeting is the opening day for gun deer hunting so if I don’t see you at the next meeting I will not be too concerned, but by Dec. 7th I hope to see all of you. We have five new members that are raring to go doing the work of the order. They are Harold Bills, Fred Westervelt, Bill Fischer, Hongpum Chung and Stanley Butler. Welcome Brother Knights and I encourage you to recruit a family member or friend to share this experience of a lifetime!

NOTES FROM THE CHAPLAIN
Dear Brother Knights,
On behalf of our parish, I would like to sincerely thank you for your recent donations to the youth of our parish. Through your support of World Youth Day and scholarship money to our school, you are contributing to both the good of our youth and the future of the Church. Hopefully, some of the young men who receive the benefits of your kindness will become future Knights and the young women will get involved in the ongoing efforts of Catholic women to make our Church strong.
As we go through the year, I keep
Congratulations of all the Knights & Families of the Month. They are as follows:
Knights of the Month.
July – George Kukler/Bill Krebs
Aug – Peter Diesel/Ray Letourneau
Sept – Jim Butler/Joe Bonifazi
Oct – Bob Dickinson / Joe Katrinic Jr.

Families of the Month:
July – The Ray Letourneau Family
Aug – The Jim Ballinger Family
Sept – The Al Clark Family

The Council Christmas Party will be December 21st. Cocktails will be at 6:00 with dinner following at 6:30 PM. The White Elephant gift exchange will follow. We are planning to have this event catered. An accurate head count is advantageous and we are encouraging a $5.00 deposit per person. A vote will be taken later to determine the dispersment of these funds.

Pancakes with Santa
This event has become a very popular event for the kids in our parish. It takes a lot of effort to put on an event of this size from shoppers, cooks, gift wrappers and set up. If you are able to help in any way, please contact our Family Director, Al Clark @ 250-6012 or Grand Knight Tom Higgerson @ 743-0296. We will be having a wrapping party on Friday, December 17th from 6:00 – 8:00 PM in the FLC. B.Y.O.S. Please remember to sign up your children and grandchildren early so as to not put any unnecessary pressure on Santa’s Helpers.

Officers Meeting Dec. 7th @ 6:30 in the FLC
Council Meeting 1st & 3rd Tuesdays of the Month
Spelling Bee Nov. 10th @ 10:00

Euchre Tournament on Tuesday November 23rd at 6:30 in the FLC. All are welcome to join in the fun. Entry fee is $5.00.

On November 29th, 2004 at 7:00 PM, Dr. Janet E. Smith will be speaking on “Organ Transplants – Are They Ethical?” Dr. Smith holds the Michael J. McGivney Chair of Life Ethics at Sacred Heart Major Seminary in Detroit. This event, which is being sponsored by the Swartz Creek Knights of Columbus and the CCW will take place at St. Mary Queen of Angels Parish in Swartz Creek.

Sacred Heart Major Seminary, because of its location – central to the city of Detroit and a diocesan hub for Catholics in Michigan – is uniquely positioned to provide the perfect training ground for well-prepared priests, deacons and lay ecclesial ministers.

As part of its initiative to be the “signature” institution for the formation of priests, deacons and lay ministers who are well prepared to address the critical issues of Life Ethics, Sacred Heart Major Seminary has names an Endowed Chair in Life in honor of Fr. Michael J. McGivney. This Endowed Chair will play a role in identifying the source of life ethics information, choosing those best equipped to deliver that message via distance learning tools, and supporting the dissemination of life ethics, which is key to the success of the distance learning project.

As you may be aware, the first of the month fish fry has started. Our next fish fry will be Friday, December 3rd from 4 – 7. I can safely speak for Ray when I say all volunteers are greatly appreciated.

Hope to see you there to either work or enjoy dinner.

The council has passed a resolution for financial support to Sacred Heart Major Seminary at a rate of $1.00 per month or $12.00 per year. This amount will appear in your dues. Please be supportive of the council's commitment to this notable cause.

Congratulations In closing, I would like to congratulate Bob & Una Piche on their 50th Wedding Anniversary, which they celebrated in October. Gary and Toni Burger will be celebrating their 50th Wedding Anniversary in January of 2005. If anyone has a special event coming up, please contact me at 743-0296.

Fraternally yours,
Tom Higgerson G.K.
